TODAY: Iowa Republicans voted to legalize child labor for kids as young as 14.

The Iowa senate did this at 5 am and hoped no one would notice.

But sure, go ahead and tell me how right-wingers are trying to protect our children.

Sure, just toss all those kids they want to force women to have into the workforce. Without thinking of their health and safety or paying them worth a damn, of course.

They were speaking of their own children, not mine, yours and ours.

Let me guess, since they are underage, they don’t have to be paid minimum wage either?

This is great for #GOP : Not only do they get to exploit child labor but they guarantee an ignorant electorate, on which they depend to stay in power.

They're trying to protect their property. Which is the only kind of value they understand, and all they see children (especially poor and non-white children) as.

This stinks to high heaven.

Did any Republican politician campaign on “deregulate child labor??”

The fact that it happens regardless of any discussion points to corporate back room dealing.

This is NOT so lawmaker’s children can have pocket money. This is so companies and businesses can exploit children from economically disadvantaged families.

I do not understand this?? Is it for the cheap labor? Why is working a school age child a good idea?

umm.. Im in agreement. I had two paper routes at 10 years old. One in the morning and the other in the evening. A BUNCH of us kids in the neighbourhood had paper routes. By 14 I had summer jobs and I've honestly worked ever since. Excellent grades at school, I paid for my school trip to Italy and t

A lot of these jobs (meat packing and slaughter house) are dangerous jobs - unlike delivering newspapers or most restaurant work.

Children are the most powerless among us.

Kids don’t have money, can’t beat you in a fight, can’t vote &, worse than anything, they’re dependent. Republicans call that socialism. They hate helping others.& they are too greedy to cherish kids.

They don’t LOVE their kids. They just HAVE them.

Why are all of our country's laws going backwards? Nevermind. It's a rhetorical question because I know the answer. Republicans.
