Babies cry. It’s what they do.

Sometimes, they cry on planes.

As someone without children, I keep in mind that I only have to hear this on occasion. Parents have to hear it all the time.

Thus, it’s easy for me to put on my headphones and keep my mouth shut.

Try it!

I work in a noisy spot at Disney World. The sounds of children -- laughing, crying, bratting, jabbering -- is the soundtrack of my life for almost 20 years.

I've learned to listen to it like the music of human life. Interesting music contains dissonance.

The sound of kids laughing is worth it all.

Childfree here. I can't tell you the number of times I've been caught in a delay and a baby starts to cry. I admit that I envy them because I feel like crying myself.

💯
Plus, we were all children, and probably did our share of crying.

Once, during a typhoon, a baby cried for an hour at the gate prior to backing out and then she cried another 90 minutes to our destination. When we deplaned, many people approached the mother to apologize *to* her because the low pressure system caused her baby pain. No one criticized the mother.

Son was 2- had a full meltdown from LGA to ORD. fell asleep during the last 20 minutes. I tried everything. My husband and I passed him back and forth to see if one of us would find ‘the thing’. He never cried on a single flight before or since - and we fly often. Parents feel awful when kids cry.

And, who amongst us has not started
out life as a crying (sometimes) baby?

Let's afford others the space to be.

empathy demands that we think what/how air pressure feels like to a baby

I have no children, but have been in charge of wailing babies and toddlers. Parents are already anxious and sad when they can't get their children to stop crying, and knowing they are annoying others is especially stressful. Extend grace. If you haven't needed it already, you will someday.

Thank you- No parent wants to deal with inconsolable babies in a flying closed space
I was once on a flight from DC to Frankfurt & I swear it was a Crying Baby Relay Race
Each baby cried for 1 hour then passed the baton to another the entire flight
I did think about bailing out over the North A
