Cemetaries as solemn, quiet places is a recent notion. In the past, they were designed as parks for public enjoyment, picnics, etc... Some of that may be returning .

The article jogged memories of my grandparents who told me about picnicking in small town cemetaries in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas, early 1900s.

Granny, Grandad and Grandma B. enjoyed the experience of remiscing about their loved ones who had died and sharing a picnic with those still living.
