It's time to retire the expression "I don't see color."

I hear racist right-wingers say this all the time, but I also hear this from well-meaning non-racists.

You see color. I would hope that you do.

Just don't discriminate solely based on the color you see.

Yass! I was in my early 20s when I first heard that phrase and cringed. Now I "educate" those who say that to me.

Whenever I hear somebody say this in future, I'm going to interrupt them with, "You should."

Derail that complacency train of thought, and have a real conversation about what they're avoiding looking at.

Saying that absolves white people who say it of acknowledging Black people's lives differ, and are harder in some ways. They may even mean well, but "your life is exactly like mine" and "you deserve the same rights and privileges I have" are two different things.
