Here's what too few people understand about being a writer: if you interrupt my flow, it will take me at least 20 minutes to find that flow again.

Yes, even if all you're doing is asking a yes-or-no question. A two-second interruption might as well be a 30-minute conversation.

My son reminded me yesterday that sometimes when I had a deadline I checked myself into a cheap local motel just so I wouldn't get interrupted.

My son interrupted my edits yesterday for "something urgent" which, when I came out of my office, was him throwing a stuffed animal at me and cackling. The time it took me to get back in the zone to finish that section...

It’s been about 20 years for me since adulthood interrupted.

But yeah, when you get in that zone where the words are just pouring onto the paper, it’s unlike anything else.

Except really good sex.

Actually, it’s exactly like the best sex you can ever have.
