Roughly 33 million of our nation’s workers have no paid sick days – including many in low-wage jobs.

Only in America do we call working people “essential” but deny them paid sick leave.

Didn’t we learn anything from the pandemic?

Apparently not. People get sick, it is as given. Do you fire somebody because they have the flu? Like Covid-19, I am sure they didn't catch it intentionally.

We learned a lot about corporations and government. Neither really care about working people in any way.

Another thing that beggars belief. What are employers afraid of?

To be clear...the pandemic is not over. So I'd rephrase slightly to say, "Haven't we learned anything since the pandemic began?"

It is unconscionable that people aren't afforded the opportunity to recover from being sick, something they have no control over. Capitalism is a cruel and exploitative system that merely seeks to enrich a few at the expense of workers who actually do the work.

I can only speak of the situation in Canada. We have not learned anything that is beneficial for Canadian society.

Didn't Ford take away the sick days that were in place before he was elected? Under Ford we're regressing. Quickly!

I never understood why the US does not take care of its workers (lived there on & off for approx 10 years). Australia has just passed a bill allowing up to 10 days PAID leave for domestic violence issues. This is over and above 4 weeks paid holiday per year + sick leave + maternity/paternity leave.

This 100%. Tbh, the fact that there is a limit on sick time is astonishing to me. People generally do not abuse this. If we as a nation truly considered healthcare a fundamental right, sick time would follow suit. The fact that we consider it a privilege speaks to our values (or lack thereof).
