Today as my husband was working on his tree, he learned someone went to jail at 16. Now we are trying to figure out what the codes mean. It took place in Pierce County, Washington in 1961. The charge was : "Hold For Y G." Fell under criminal code. So, what does that mean?

I'd only be guessing - I have no idea. 60 years ago they arrested and held people for different reasons than today. Sorry.

Any chance it says "Y C" rather than Y G?

Perhaps. It's on an Ancestry Database, but there is no image. I did find some Washington State Corrections images on Family Search, but they went through October 1961. (He committed the crime in 1961 but was held for 24 hours in Feb 1962. The records start with the first day they are held.)
