I have a strange question if you’ll all indulge me.

When you order Chinese take out, does the place you order from add in a complete bizarre free item?

I particularly interested if you live in a small town.

Only on weekends when they are trying to get rid of the morning dim sum leftovers. I'm in a pretty big city (PHX)

My parents used to eat at a Chinese restaurant so regularly that the owners shared their family’s dinner with my parents. This means my parents got the meals they ordered along with pieces of the family’s meal for the evening.

Years ago we had a place that gave you paper fans and little oranges.

We just get fortune cookies and enough duck sauce to feed a small farming community.

Do you order from them often? Maybe it was a an “appreciation “ thing. If not.. I might be a bit nervous 😬 of “giveaway” food! 😆

Our local Chinese restaurant includes a simple egg roll; however, our local Korean restaurant includes choice of soup or glass noodles. If you choose glass noodles, your dish comes over both rice and glass noodles. It’s a bizarre combination that is weirdly good; I’m hoping the soup is on the side.

But these all fundamentally make sense. What I’m thinking of is so bizarre that it cannot be explained.

In a big city, but yes this is actually more of a thing in Chinese restaurants than any other, they sometimes gift you something if you spend over an amount, it is not really advertised because then its not really a gift :)

Free? yes. Bizarre? Shanghai noodles are fun to eat, but not especially bizarre…

By bizarre, do you mean a food item? Or do you mean something random, like a paint brush??

An egg roll here and there. With pizza, a garlic knot. With donuts, some donut holes. I consider it the karmic win of the day when it happens

Yes, frequently additional items. Usually crab Rangoon, but sometimes white rice.
