Folks, last night I wanted to do a thread on the Debt Celling, but I gotta do a thread on something a lot more immediate. I'm noticing here that we have the same people whom will withhold their vote because the dems and I quote "have to earn my vote."

That "gotta earn my vote" mentality is hyper dangerous and also hyper lazy. I'm fairly certain this recent, like 2010 recent when these dems abandoned Obama causing him to lose the house, and in 2014 causing him to lose the Senate.

This mentality folks, is how nothing gets done. For example, a reasonable person knows they have to continue to get involved in politics, and will do the research needed to vote for the right person come primaries. That is, this is the only shot to get the right person, and not a Tricia Cotham.

Also by withholding your vote, you're giving a signal to the GOP that you're more than willing to give over votes to them, than to support the candidate. That is, there's no reason for party purification.

Let's also consider that this tactic cost us huge in 2016 when Hillary Clinton and the rest of us warned that Trump can (and did) reshape the SCOTUS in the GOP's corrupt image. Not only that but many of these "earn my vote" crowd voted for Jill Stein, or Gary Johnson.

I'm unsure if this is an OP, or people believe this mentality. If it's an OP, then it's up to us to just ignore it and move on, and block said op. If it's an actual person then it's time for voter education.

Ultimately, withholding your vote, or "they gotta earn my vote!" or voting for a loser third party is a signal to the GOP they can do as they wish...and if you have this mentality you WILL get blamed.

It's up to you to participate pure and simple and voting and researching are the barest minimum you can do. If you wish to do phone/text banking, letters, post cards, canvassing for GOTV etc, then do so...because being lazy is not an option.

So...you've ignored the past two years when he (and a democratically controlled congress) did a lot, and needed a lot more help now in 2023?

Another thing that gets me is people who say, "We have to ditch the two-party system!" If we don't vote as a block to knock these people out, in a few years we won't be voting AT ALL!

Add... run for local office if you can. Many local positions - city council, town mayor, school boards, community college advisories - are part-time positions.

#MomsDemandAction (among other activist groups) has been encouraging this kind of citizen participation at the neighborhood level.

This is fuckin nuts. If Biden did just a tenth of what he’s accomplished he’d have “earned my vote” by not being a goddamn FACIST, RACIST, RAPIST, AND CRIMINAL.

If you want to win elections, the best way to do that is to campaign like you want to win an election. Go everywhere you possibly can. Energize as many voters as you can.

And by "you" I mean the candidate. Not just your team.

That's how Biden won in 2020. Hillary lost because she didn't in 2016.

Yes, even Democrats have to earn votes. And they have to start delivering on as many promises as they can. Things are getting worse here every year, and we need a better reason than "I'm not the Republican," in order to vote.

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of tolerating DINOs over the GOP.

I tried to explain this just a few days ago to a POC who has become disenfranchised by the Democratic party because she feels not enough is being done to address concerns of the black community. She voted for Biden in '20 and insists she will not vote at all in '24. I couldn't convince her.

The "Dems have to earn my vote crowd" are the ones groups like No Labels relys on to shift an election to right-wing zealots. We have to educate the 83 million who DID NOT vote in 2022. They cost the Dems the House/Senate and are responsible for putting our fragile democracy on life support. GOTV!!!

Voting is an action to help get the leaders you want, NOT a "reward" you give for a job well done.

Voting is not buying that latest-model-with-all-the-options that will take you wherever you want to go.
Voting is buying a bus ticket for the destination you want the county to arrive in.
