On social media like Spoutible, without a curated algorithmic timeline, think of likes as a message to the original Spoutie that you like their content. Think of echoes as a message to other Spouties that they should check out the content. It's not like the bird app.

I love that there is no algorithm!

Like Masto, I have to remind myself to use hashtags a little more aggressively, because otherwise, the casual discoverability of subjects-of-interest is really low.

I wish every new spouter would receive a "welcome spout" that would explain this along with other helpful tips for moving around & building community.

Hope this helps.
I hear what you're saying.
I think I just happened to be fortunate and see some very early on. Check out #spoutibletips
Suggestion @Spoutible and @cbouzy that new accounts get some tips sent their way.

This is true. Think of Echoing in how whales communicate. The sounds travel for miles. Echoes can help people connect with others outside their pod.

I echo a lot on here, spreading the good word, trying to get people to join hands. Or.... form pods. (imagine a smiley face)

Hold on... That's not how I was supposed to use the bird app? I ask, because that's how I've been using the bird app. ????

I was using the bird app like that too. The difference I think is that here, that's the ONLY way that a spout will be seen by someone who doesn't happen to be watching live right after it was posted. On the bird app, algorithms feed you tweets that it thinks you want to see based on their popularity

Not really. On the bird app you're actually talking to the algorithm more than other people. A like here isn't going to spread a spout. On the bird app the algorithm will put content that has many likes or views back on the feed. Here great content can just scroll off the timeline.

In addition to "I like this," I find likes to also serve as a message from me to the poster saying "hey I see you." This means echoes are "hey other people should see you."
