I do most of my sewing on a 100+ year old Singer treadle sewing machine that I inherited from my grandmother when I was 18. I sew buttonholes and hems by hand. I usually finish seams with pinking shears but for some fabrics do a blanket stitch, by hand of course.

I used to have a sewing blog. It's still out there; I just haven't updated it in a couple of years. In case anyone's interested in seeing some of the things I've sewn in the past...

It’s gorgeous! Lucky you. ❤️ My grandma, who lived with us until she transitioned, had one that I loved and wanted but my uncle (who used it for tailoring when he was young) came over took it. After he died, his daughter got it.

There's something so relaxing about seeing buttonholes and eyelets by hand. I do the same on historical costumes

This brings back so many memories for me. My Mom turned out masterpieces on a similar machine. When my mom finished a dress, the "wrong" side was as beautifully finished as the "right" side.
She taught me to sew but I could never attain her standards.

That’s a beautiful machine. It must be meaningful for you to be able to keep using something of your grandmother’s.

When I was little I used to sit on the floor and push on the treadle with my hands.

My mom talks about how much she loved learning to sew on her grandma’s treadle Singer. Ironically, great-gma had it converted to electric later in life. I love vintage machines but stick to post-WW2/pre-Cold War Pfaff and Bernina. #sewing #VSM #analog

I have one, inherited from my grandmother, too. It's missing the belt on the bottom to run it, otherwise it would be in perfect working order. My grandmother used to sew anything leather on it. Some day, I'll get the belt to get it to work

There's an adorable, ancient sewing machine cabinet that was left in the house we're trying to buy.

I really want to spend an hour or two going through all my clothes to find the best one but I'm lazy so here's one I did recently on the front of a dress.

My mom had one of those. My sister has it now. They also had modern machines but this one was especially useful for tough fabrics, like when they would be doing upholstery work.

Yes! It'll sew fabrics that make an electric machine stall out.

Thank you. I wouldn't call it dedication though. More like obsession? Addiction? Anyway. I have a 6'X7' walk-in closet full of my creations, I have no more room for clothes and I can't stop.

It was also easy to use.
