It’s time to end legacy admissions. Each year thousands of students are admitted to colleges around the nation only because their parents went there.

Legacy admissions are back-door discriminatory policies that overwhelmingly advantage wealthy, white students over everyone else.

And let's be clear: legacy students are there b/c part of their legacy is wealth, & the schools anticipate receiving a share of it, & judging by their endowments, they do.

And it's not as though rich & powerful scions are particularly better students. We grinds, however, have to be.

Legacy admissions advantage wealthy white students over everyone else, but not necessarily "wealthy, white students."

So true! It's just affirmative action for those with historically privileged families.

It's time to reform the courts, 18 year term limits, expand to 13 because there are 13 districts & a code of ethics that is enforceable.

I agree on Supreme Court term limits, I would go one step further and include a bipartisan House and Senate review of each Justice on performance and adherence to the Code of Ethics every six years. IMO the SCOTUS should not be the untouchable, self-governing omnipotent elitists they are now.

You also need to stop having politicians choose your judges.

Page 468:
"These laws opened up opportunities for limited numbers of Black Americans while largely leaving centuries of meticulously orchestrated inequities soundly in place, but now with the sheen of color-blind magnanimity."

Exactly. That's one reason why I turned down a major college to which I applied and was accepted. I couldn't really shake the notion that part of that decision may have been because my grandmother went there.

Seriously?

It didn't occur to you that whether she went there or not, you may have met their standards & thus belonged there as much as any non-legacy student?

That's what I'd have thought were I in that situation, just as I thought that upon matriculating at a top university while bring a POC.
