I believe we all should use whatever abilities we have to try to make the world a better place. So I spent three days beading pins to give away to those who promised to write a letter to the editor.

I was pleased with the turnout at a protest calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. Speakers talked about their parents and grandparents being forced out of their homes.

I knew the park it was held in tends to be littered with needles, so went early with supplies for cleaning that up.

My previously homeschooling daughter wants to go to school this year and plans on wearing masks. It isn't just for Covid protection but emotional security too. So I am sewing her more masks.

I think we have a rodent problem in our yard. Our cats are only let out on leashes, and we're undecided how much to let them hunt the rodents. Sometimes they get them despite our best efforts. Sometimes I think we should let them hunt more to reduce the population. #SpoutingWildlife

I am slowly learning to make bobbin lace. Most of my practice piece here is hidden by my cat.

Today I started a new sash to fingerweave. I'll put one picture here, but I have a set that show the progression on my Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/H... #weaving #canadianhistory

Reading these instructions from 1895 is a reminder that a lot of elegant clothing items were a demonstration not just of the cost of obtaining them but the wealth it took to maintain them. Laces could be carefully removed from clothes to wash separately.

Picture is from a parody of "This is the House that Jack Built" talking about England in 1819. Two parodies each a different side in a political debate over what protects freedom. https://www.facebook.com/H...

In 1846 the Corn Laws were finally repealed in Britain. Punch portrayed one of the leaders of the Anti-Corn Law League as Prospero. Longer Shakespeare paraphrase : https://www.facebook.com/H...

Today we did garbage clean-up via canoe, which was lots of fun because it involves carefully drawing the canoe in next to various targets and hoping we don't tip because of reaching too far out. We managed wonderfully. There's lots more to clean up, so hopefully we'll get back out soon.

Sitting down to read some of Richard Carlile's writings from 1819 and 1820. I cringe at the title of his publication.... The term "Republican" is hard to not project my modern distain for onto.

I'm reading right now about the Regency crisis of 1788 and reflecting how the way different politicians talked about their ideal governments and how they actually act has always differed. Fox wanted limited power for monarchy... until it was his friend becoming Regent.

It is warm enough to make it worth getting the cat leash out again. We know he likes his outdoor time but we do not want him to hunt birds or get in traffic accidents so he and his brother get supervised outdoor time. It helps teach me to slow down and admire the subtle details of the natural world.

Facebook memories tells me I posted this picture a year ago. This year we have a thick layer of snow on the ground still, and I've only seen the swans a couple of times so far.

I get giddy with excitement making notes about historical figures, drawing connections between the people and clarifying in my own mind how different events and stories were connected.

Blah. Life is busy. I've been sorting out old craft supplies, finding moth-eaten half-done projects and trying to decide which to keep working on and what to scrap. I'm trying to let go of all the things I've failed on in the past and prioritize what I want to do now.

Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, has worked to expand the use of ILC, a correspondence course program that the province pays for. My teens have used some of their courses. They suck.
This is an image from one of the math classes. Find the perimeter.
