I don't. I've never been prepared for some of the situations my students are in. Covid nearly did me in (seeing how some lived). I love literature. I'm not a social worker or therapist. But I can't ignore people's plights. It hurts sometimes.

Got an urgent message from a student. Not getting in the particulars, she let me know she lives in a group home, and works full-time, so there was no time to do the assignment. I have a strict no late policy...but not in this case. She's doing great. I want to help her do great.
