Throughout American culture, if you are not white, and you call out someone's bad behavior, even liberal leaders will tell you to shut up. People get very nervous when people of color stand up for themselves.

It's hard to even know what to say about the depth of the depravity of people like Abbott and his far right white supremacy sympathies, and those of the entire republican party.

It was such an incredible show. First time I've seen them. It was crazy to just go out on my back deck to view. Usually if they are visible here, one would have to go out by the water, or some other clear horizon and a photographer might capture a small arch of green.

Perimenopause was alarming, uncomfortable, and long. I went through a bunch of tests to make sure it wasn't cancer. It was not. Actual menopause is just fine for me. Hot flashes weren't a huge deal for me, but I know they can be for many.

City of refuge, promised land, holy place are other definitions of Zion. That is probably is why you have Christian churches with it in their name. I've thought it was aspirational in that context....creating a holy presence on earth.

That said "promised land" might be different. Colonialist even.

Lucy Bee, our half hound, half Black Mouth Cur girl. Strong enough to pull a sled. Protective and with a giant chip against raccoons. She turns 6 on the 29th.

This is her personal chair in the living room.
