Think it's probably more accurate to say the 2 games share common roots (as opposed to US football, which definitely developed from rugby), but yes. I always think it's a bit sad Americans see baseball as a much younger more novel game than it really is. Truth is its roots go back hundreds of years.

Fun fact: the first international cricket match was between the US and Canada! Cricket actually has a long history in the US - basically as long as there have been Limeys over here.

Oh, and the US is just about to co-host the World Cup in the shortest format. They won't be competitive, but it's pretty damn cool they're involved on that level. https://en.m.wikipedia.org...

There are 3 major formats. The longest (also best!) takes several days. The shortest is about the same length as a baseball game. The middle version takes a full day. For a noob, the shortest format is usually the most accessible, but the longest format allows a story that cannot be told in 3hrs!

Seems like a great opportunity for a word in support of test match cricket... 5 glorious days of meandering, occasionally engrossing action that may or may not yield a positive result at the end. A wonderful anachronism from a slower, more patient time. 🏏😍

Agree. Not been here long - tried Mastodon when Twitter really started going to shit (too disjointed), found a happy home at Post (much to like, but clearly didn't get traction it needed) - truth is this is technically better, engagement is better, think the business model is probably better too.

Idk, for me you articulated the problem with Mastodon - you were invited to "a" Mastodon site. This is just a much better and more coherent experience than anything on the federated model 🤷‍♂️

Common theme with most of these pricks is what they want "liberty" from is consequences of their assholery, illegality, and perversions.

And a few just embarrassed Republicans. Know a guy who's a somewhat sincere libertarian. Taking to him about it once he was trying to argue that if we just tried libertarianism we'd find it was the answer. I pointed out we did, centuries ago, and it wasn't. The conversation moved on.

As a white middle aged dude I know I don't have blockers others do, yet here I am just involuntarily lateraled into a role I didn't want under someone at the level I should've been 5 yrs ago. "Don't do that, he'll be a retention risk" old boss told them. They did it anyway. Resume is going out 🤷‍♂️

The NJ photo? The thing is it's not even doctored. It's a photo of a concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio (Rod Stewart, in 1994, ftr). He literally just googled some big crowd pics and lifted one he thought looked good.

Good choices. I know Denver best - lived there when I moved to the US. Great city, crazy growth. Different every time I go back (which is several times a year).

Don't know Chicago at all. Really only passed through the airport. Top of my list to spend some real time.

Food in NOLA is amazing!

A general misunderstanding of the world & how it works, I think (& Bernie feeds it ftr). Total inability to comprehend "progress" doesn't all come at once & you can't just shout your way to getting everything you want. People like Hilary & Biden are pragmatic, which kills the "progressives" buzz.

If you're that triggered that it's virtually impossible for you to win a net comp, don't enter the net comp!

But also, if you're running a club, you need to organise comps that provide opportunities to people of different levels - and don't call a 20 index who shoots 91 your club champ!

So fugly! Somehow even worse in person. Was just talking about this irl. There are some bold designs that stand the test of time and become classics. The Cybertruck will become a joke. A hideous way to announce to the world that you are what Brits call "a prize tosser" (that's the polite version).
