I was a lowly bank teller near UW in the early 80’s. Proffesser Lawrence would always come in so humbly ID in hand to do his banking. I was in awe. One of the greatest artists our nation has produced.

Here is another Titus Kaphar painting from the Cleveland Museum of Art magazine. Kaphar added rusted nails to his canvas & covered George Washington's face & body with this tea-stained shroud inscribed with the names of the more than 300 people he enslaved.

One of my favorite painters, so I was delighted to find out that he lived for many years in a red brownstone a few blocks from our apartment - it's marked by a plaque. Lincoln Kirstein, too - just a few houses away.
