Cycling is the shortest path to happiness

It has positive effects on intelligence (IQ), anxiety, memory capacity, it alleviates stress, improves self-esteem, reduces migraines and headaches, lowers the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia, boosts creativity, improves sleep, and your body gets toned.

That question I asked a friend once when she was struggling with a relationship - "what does your future look like if the only people you allow into your life are people who treat you with love and respect?" - also applies to social media platforms.

Katherine Johnson was an extraordinary mathematician who worked 33 years for NASA. She calculated and analyzed flight paths of many spacecrafts, including Apollo 11. She was also one of the first African American women to work as a human computer. She died Feb 24, 2020 at age 101. #BlackHistoryMonth

The longer I live, the more I think that timed, closed-book problem-set-style exams are the single worst way to predict professional success in #science .

These days I prioritize my health over doing more, being more, accomplishing more. When I’m tired, I stop and rest. Wild that nobody encouraged that when I was younger and just starting to learn what really matters. #mentalhealth

Thinking about John Fetterman tonight and my dad, who would have been 90 this week. My dad passed away when he was 58 from a massive heart attack, but I’m sure his death was exacerbated by depression. Men just didn’t talk about it back then. So grateful that times are changing. #mentalhealth

In case you missed it: why the world isn't as bad as you think. Why the "event bias" in the news obscures some really good news and makes you think everything is falling apart. https://brianklaas.substac...

When I’m not doing #science or #writing about science, I’m usually #baking . Here’s one of my recent creations: a hot water crust Thanksgiving leftover raised pie. So much fun to get into the chemistry of how to put that project together! (Also: freezes brilliantly.) Recipe from #GBBO Xmas cookbook.

Yesterday: Brought family to the best basketball game I've ever seen live (and I've covered the NBA and the Olympics): the University of Washington women's team upsetting Stanford. Unreal atmosphere, free tix to students, $18 general admission, best game in town. Love this place! #Seattle 🏀🏀🏀
