In response to the Florida "standards" for teaching Black history, I talked to UNC scholar Jacquelyn Dowd Hall about the importance of the past--and of undoing the past--in the former Confederacy and her 2019 book, "Sisters and Rebels" wwnorton

A platform without a block button is like a car without brakes; it makes no sense. So many marginalized people are about to be targeted, harassed, and abused on Twitter, and it makes me angry.

This will intentionally violate Apple and Play Store terms of service. Remember this is just about decentralizing the pro-democracy movement into identity-based spaces. Essentially Elno can't stop apartheiding.

Excuse me, I'm on Twitter recruiting. It's a great time with the asinine news of removing a block button.

Nothing like writing "mortal" instead of "mortar."
Yes, I did say that a god of sorts lives here, but there were NO souls used in the construction process.

Reporters and pundits need to retire the phrase "voting wars." Expanding voting access is not partaking in a "war." The only war is the one *against* democracy by Republicans and their allies. This is not a "both sides" story, so please do not suggest it is.

A month ago, people said the same thing about Bluesky when we didn't have any apps. We will not rush out an iOS app or any feature because of Threads. If a user wants to leave because our iOS app hasn't been released yet, then that person was never going to stay anyway.
Mary Bloch @AroundblockkcI’m afraid if you don’t get an IOS app soon, you will lose too many people to Threads.09:42 AM - Jul 06, 2023

Had the great pleasure of attending a celebration of the Library of America’s 40th anniversary. 40 years of putting—& keeping—great American letters & literature in print. Heard brief comments from Tony Kushner, Suzanne Vega, Skip Gates & more. And it was an event! A real cultural event! In person!

We purposely made suggested follows to include new accounts. If we didn't, they would fly under the radar. By doing it this way, they can be spotted and reported quickly. We will never be able to stop all bad people from joining, but we can remove them after they join. It takes teamwork.

They will be suspended as soon as they spout or do something that violates our policies. So their account is useless anyway.

1. The right is banning books, not the left. Disliking a book is not banning it. Stop saying it is.
2. We're a democratic republic; our Constitution creates a democratic gov't. Saying "WE'RE A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC" doesn't negate that fact.

Norfolk Southern, the company whose train derailed in Ohio and unleashed chemicals, made a record $12 billion in revenue last year.
Instead of investing in better safety measures, what did the company do? It authorized a $10 billion stock buyback.
Corporate greed, folks.
