If you are so ashamed and afraid of American history that you can’t bear the teaching of it, you’re the one who hates America. The rest of us know that we are not responsible for what our ancestors did. We are only responsible for knowing how history informs the present, and for acting accordingly.

There is no value more central to the First Amendment, and to the idea of representative democracy generally, than the right to criticize the government. A public institution that does not understand this deserves neither respect nor the continued patronage of the citizenry.

This is why I don’t think DOJ should have filed suit against Texas. The Administration should have sent federal personnel to dismantle the obstructions. Let Texas file suit. Or let them initiate a physical confrontation. Abbott doesn’t have the guts.

Oh, I agree. They deserve what they have coming. I just always think it’s worth noting that Trump expects everything and gives nothing in return. Loyalty and sacrifice are a one-way street. I believe the saying is “ETTD”—Everything Trump Touches Dies.

So he’s another Jon Gruden. It’s a little strange to me, because they say the best cure for prejudice is familiarity—yet for so many of these coaches, the opposite seems to be true. It’s almost as if they really hate themselves, and therefore have contempt for anyone who would let themselves be led.

Yes, it’s a totally made-up case. The Court had to ignore one of the basic rules of jurisprudence to take it: the existence of a case or controversy. Then these clowns complain that the public doesn’t respect them. They don’t seem to respect themselves.

Yes. The decision means that all parts of government—legislatures, courts, governors, and the voters if there’s a referendum/initiative process—get to weigh in on redistricting, as with any other law. If a party controls the whole of state government, gerrymandering is still possible.

Forgive me if this is too obvious, but it seems if you looked for cookbooks specializing in Spanish, southern Italian, or Greek cuisine, you’d necessarily be getting Mediterranean recipes—and they’d probably be more authentic and flavorful than you’d find in an American Mediterranean diet cookbook.
