Lethargic in our reflexive sorrow,
We mourn the loss of lazy evenings, oft
Spent easily on pipedreams of tomorrow
Lain in grassy meadows warmly soft.
Now darker hues delineate our dreaming
Fluttering as leaves to winter's call.
No longer is tomorrow our redeeming
We whirl into the reckoning of Fall.

I will miss the summer smiles of nature
a morning dance in the foothills
soft tones of rolling hills
flanked by gentle blue mountains
cargo trains passing through unobtrusive trellis
emerging to picturesque motives of white, pink, purple & sorted blooms
old stone structures filling gaps of blooms

Back porch, Grandma's Sun Tea on the rail, aunts & uncle's rolling cigarettes & "sipping" E&J. Al Green serenades from inside the house as the door flies opens on a spring, young cousins running from yells of air-conditioning ain't free! BBQ, potato salad, collard greens. 1st day of school on Monday

The basketball lay in the grass beside the driveway, caught in fractured morning sunlight. I’ll have to pick that up, he thought, and put the car in reverse. In the back seat, his son already slept surrounded boxes of clothes and books and dorm room furnishings. The air was cool, the season shifted.

He liked being alone. Comics and TV kept him company. Riding his bike on he sunny days was great fun. He knew that after Labor Day he'd have to go to school and be bullied and insulting all day.

She stared out the window at the hot August day. Another year gone by. As a child, looking forward to her birthday meant looking forward to the end of summer and the start of school. It always filled her with mixed emotions. Even now, as an adult, it fills her with melancholy and longing for autumn.

We locked the door carefully. Before that we had closed the shutters and emptied the water pipe. Little was spoken as we hoisted our packs and got ready to leave. Everyone one of us waved farewell to the little mountain hut which had been our home during the summer. Some of us would never return.

Mornings brought a cool crisp breeze from the northwest. Trees rustled, their leaves heralding colors to come. The lake, as if shivering in the low sun, shrugged off its warmth and whispered gently along the shore. A beautiful goodbye, yet hopeful invitation, for our time once more is done.

There is a shade of blue
Common on clear days in late summer
It is not a soft shade
But solid definitive blue
And when I see it overhead, like today
I remember another day
With that blue
On a Tuesday in September
When clear skies stretched from my home
To lower Manhattan

Key words: in unity.

Not in the natural world of separation.

I had the thought that maybe this wasn't
the best spout---it probably needs more
explanation to be relatable.

Whenever you see an argument that there should be more age limits on candidates, or term limits, or IQ tests to run for office or even to vote- beware. This is a trap, and one that draws in many well-meaning progressives.

That's one of the goals of true anti-racism. Being able to sit with difference, listen and respect diverse voices of people of color instead of presuming to correct, teach, minimize and talk over/through us.

I opened a Mastodon account at the end of October and closed my Twitter account for good mid -November. Would have come straight to Spoutible if had been available then. I'm keeping my Mastodon account for now. I still like it over there, too.
