Still trying to come up with an adequate description of how magnificent it was to spend an evening with Reed College’s Black Student Union and Third Eye Books owners Michelle and Charles and ALSO meet Kent Ford, founder of Portland’s chapter of the Black Panther Party

#VentilationInequity :
Left is science classroom, steady state CO2, ventilation above requirement.
Right is typical classroom, well below minimum outdoor air requirement.

Scientists warn and protect us from disease outbreaks, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, earthquakes, heatwaves, and much more. Bullying them, doxxing them, and harassing them off social media and public platforms will put *everyone* at more risk no matter what your politics.

“Weaving an intricate narrative, Seletzky blends personal memories and reflections with facts — about the Invaders, the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strike, her ancestors’ and parent’s lives in the Deep South, and her father’s dilemmas….”

Not that it's likely to happen, but I would love to see someone with #LOngCOVID or that has lost loved ones to #COVID leading the White House COVID-19 response team. The people closest to the pain should be the closest to the power!

A reminder that the earloop KN95 respirators may only score 3 out of the 100 Fit Factor points needed for a respirator to pass a fit test. That's no better than a surgical mask. Please upgrade to headstraps and get fit tested. Google “respirator fit test near me”.

This study of earloop KF94 masks showed that they scored 6 Fit Factor points out of the 100 needed to pass. Worn with clips/snuggers/earsavers, they score 29/100 points. That's still far too poor to evoke the “perfect is the enemy of the good” defence.

Great to see Ed Yong back with another critical piece about why some are so invested in minimizing #LOngCOVID and the people who are being most impacted by this pandemic.

"The people who still live with #COVID are being ignored so that everyone else can live with ignoring it."

That's me! (Well, except for not being a guy and not winning $432,000.) I wear that mask every time I go inside anywhere.

It takes time to overcome the “merchants of doubt” who demand an RCT for everything—even if the RCT is unethical. We didn't need an RCT of smoking to believe it caused cancer. Why demand an RCT before believing that every COVID infection is doing you harm?

In early 2020, CDC officers were told not to wear masks, "so as not to alarm the public."

Meanwhile, privately, many CDC officers were advising friends and family to "cancel weddings and planned vacations, to stay home, and to wear masks & goggles when they ventured outside."

Unbelievable!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you can have solid scientific expertise on a subject, yet still make bad policy recommendations that ignore equity. Calling out experts for supporting harmful policies isn't undermining expertise, it's speaking up for justice.

Kid's backpack #COVIDCO2 measurements for a week. What's the difference that made it better? March break. No school.

Left: 2500 ppm from riding the school bus. High mid-day values 1200 ppm from an undersized ventilation system.

Right: 600-900 ppm in our home.

Turns out it's remarkably clear, short, and informative regarding viral evolution and #immunity . Worth a read. 💡🤔 https://www.thelancet.com/...
