I've been offline because I completed writing a historical mystery series that was everything I've wanted to say as a Muslim woman and a historian of medieval Islam and was spent. Like my brain was jelly, my heart was emptied, my body, well, let's not talk about what 5 years writing does to a body.

I’m on social media mainly to connect with people over books — or my Muslim community
— and hopefully introduce my novels to people who would otherwise never heard of them. Every day on Twitter meant sales. But it also meant drinking poison for the privilege. I hope this place can stay different.

Happy Eid! End of Ramadan. This Muslim of Jewish-Irish upbringing enjoyed a laid back day with my Sufi community. We don't do gender segregation or men first, so I ended up doing the sermon (which was basically: you deserve to treat yourself with dignity), then we ate a pile of food and chilled.
