CALL TO ACTIVISM

There is speculation that Mitch McConnell just had a stroke on live television.

Is it too early to talk about the need for term limits yet?

1973 to 2009: Joe Biden, senator
2009-2016: Joe Biden, Vice President
2020-Current Joe Biden, President
1987 to current: Nancy Pelosi, Representative and past Speaker of the House twice

I'm not feeling it when these two alone represent over three-quarters of a century of service to the country.

We have an age requirement running for House, Senate and President. There should be an age Stoppage for all branches of government

Term limits aren't a solution-- the real problem is campaign financing and re-districting. If we change how candidates raise, report and spend money and have some public financing, everything changes for the better. And if districts are fair (no gerry-mandering), candidates will be more moderate.

It's always the wrong time to talk about term limits, because they're stupid.

Jeez, that was way worse than I thought it would be. I've unfortunately been in the room when someone had a stroke before and....yeah. Wow.

1. Biden can run circles around me.
2. Why didn’t the press conference immediately shut down and someone call 911?

There should be term limits just like there are for the presidency. This way we get fresh minds, and we can get rid of the Trash!

My Senator is in his 40s and had a stroke. His recovery seems to have gone well. Let's separate term limits from health. Thanks.

not necessarily term limits, but how about no one over age 70 can run for office? At that age, one has been an adult for over half a century. Time to let younger folks have opportunities.

As a comparison- another bureaucracy, the Catholic Church, offers retirement to priests at 70 and requires it at 75 of both priests and bishops. So your suggestion is not without precedent.

If any of you follow Angry Staffer on Twitter, he has intimated that McConnell has some health issues and suggested he might retire before his term ends. He does not look well.

I felt the same. I find his actions & subsequent gloating as a legislator extremely despicable, but I never wish health issues on anyone. This looked like a seizure, i.e., epileptic, ONLY a lay-person guess from my personal experience with someone. Maybe it's related to his recent fall?

It's totally inappropriate to use this incident as a stepping stone to rail against age. A person can have a stroke, heart attack, or medical issue AT ANY AGE. Ability is individual; age can play a role, but it isn't always a factor nor should an arbitrary age be the sole reason to stop working.

All politicians of any age should have to pass physicals and mental competency tests on a regular basis because, as you said, this can happen at any age and it's a high stress job. Also, a civics test requirement before being allowed to run for office would weed out the Boeberts and other morons.

Age absolutely becomes a key factor as one grows older. A person is certainly more likely to have a stroke, heart attack, or suffer other medical issues as they age. Especially when accompanied by signs of mental and physical decline, age does indeed become pertinent.
This shouldn't be controversial

Not a stroke, a #tia . They can precede a #CVA , a stroke. And both him and #Feinstein are the prime examples of why term limits and max age are needed.

To much money involved to restrict that cash cow.

That’s why he was swiftly wheeled back out to re-refute the claims of having had a stroke. Mitch McConnell is a diehard politician, he understands the importance of appearances, and not showing weakness.

To be honest, we need BOTH term limits and a max age to run for office. I know it’s not a popular opinion.
