Someone said many were despondent in '16 about not having our 1st woman prez, but didn't realize how bad Trump would be. If this is true, it's a huge problem. Trump told us exactly who he was the day he called Mexicans rapists (& long before). 1/2 our problem is people choosing not to pay attention.

Forget about the Central Park 5. Forget the birther B.S Forget all that but when you declared bankruptcy multiple times, bankrupt casinos and a professional football league are the 2 things in America that print money... What the hell did anyone think would happen if this MORON got power?

I feel like a 3rd party or write in votes also played a part. If those votes went to H.C. maybe the results would've been better.
The media/polls sure maybe it seems like H.C. had it locked in. That's why don't listen to either and #VoteSmart .

I think it’s not not paying attention. I think it’s not caring. Character has been manipulated and we are all responsible for sitting back and watching rather than acting . Democracy is work. It’s holding people accountable. It’s forcing our laws to be enforced. We’ve had it to good. The war is now.

As a New Yorker I knew he was a pathetic joke since I was a teen in the 80s. What has been stunning and horrifying is how the country could have gotten behind him in any capacity - let alone the entire GOP. Countless people have obviously broken the law for him. White supremacy, is a hella drug.

My rule of thumb: when things don't seem to make sense (like people's support for one such as Tr*mp), see if White supremacy makes it make sense. All too often, it does. White supremacy is America's Allen wrench; it "fixes" just about everything.

If the Trump MAGA cult happens to pull out a Trump win in 2024 it will prove the majority of voters want a fascist, white supremist, 78-time (and counting) indicted criminal felon in the White House. The country would soon become a fascist dictatorship. If we don't vote we will have it coming.

I call bull shyte. The man was very vocal about who he is, so if you voted for that trash anyway, it's because you felt the same way he did. He was very open with his racism, bigotry, and sexism, so voting for him meant you have the same feelings.

When Trump wasn't kicked off the campaign trail for mocking a disabled reporter, when he was caught on tape saying he grabs women inappropriately. On the RNC debate stage he verbally insulted and attacked other candidates. Spewed lies and hatred, it was clear to anyone who listened.

Tr*mp ran on white supremacy, misogyny & hatred. Many folks preferred that over a Black male, or female president. Full 🛑. I live in a “blue” state and can recall family/friends who seemed to support him, but were unusually silent about it. We all knew what “MAGA” really meant. Some are ok with it.

New Yorkers knew. We'd known who he really was since the 70s. We kept trying to tell people, but some thought we were exaggerating -- and others don't like New York. "Oh, he can't be that bad," they said.

Still others really believed in what he said. And they are dangerous.

There are reasons why people choose to not pay attention and reasons that they don't pay attention that are not (or much less) a matter of conscious choice. Bad actor manipulations aside, *how* good faith efforts to get them to pay attention are presented matters--psychologically.

It was a (consequential) problem, less "huge" now by way of the widespread--and ongoing--consequences, both negative and positive. The Biden-Harris administration and many state and local governments are making it both easier to pay attention and less negatively consequential not to.

The media owners DGAF about democracy, they're fine with autocracy (falsely thinking they won't be the first against the wall). NYT has framed autocracy as un-threatening at least back to Hitler

They just want coverage of a horse-race, not the truth, the race sells more papers than truth
