My prediction was spot on, but the past month also revealed something else. Even with 100 million users and high-profile accounts posting daily, engagement quickly plummeted. Why? What happened? It's clear the missing ingredient is a dedicated and loyal community. That is how we take the crown. 👑

All of these people touting Threads greatness were already on Instagram. At some point, they will have to bring in new users, and it's a hard sell to get someone new to install two apps. There will be a large segment of users that will never join Threads and no longer want to be on Twitter.

So the assumption that we need more news outlets or high-profile people to compete is false. Threads proved that for us. What we need is more users who had enough of the targeted harassment, abuse, and disinformation. More users who are seeking something safer and believe in what we are building.

Yesterday, only four Twitter alternatives were trending. Threads, Bluesky, Spoutible, and Mastodon. So although journalists might be ignoring us now, it's obvious the people who matter aren't. Let the journalists focus on the Goliaths while we build something special that will have longevity.

You don’t sound condescending at all. Quite frankly I don’t believe you should speak for everyone. I’m on Spoutible often because it’s a good environment, I’m also on Twitter because my fellow Brits & others are still there. When we have “spaces” others will come. Spoutible is the best alternative!

Unfortunately, the reality is the news outlets, reporters, academics and other experts and newsmakers are the core reason Twitter had huge reach and power. Remove them, which is essentially what Spoutible has done temporarily, removes what should be its core…

…Spoutible can be a nice safe place to meet like minded people but it can’t replace Twitter. Which helps keep Twitter alive and drives those academics, experts and reporters off social media. You can’t be an alternative without being an alternative. A bicycle isn’t a car. It’s nice & fun. But…2/

I will conclude by reminding you that #Spoutible came online the beginning of this year. & the platform continues to grow, improve & become stronger each passing day. Twitter didn’t grow overnight either, & it’s taking a while to die.
Enjoy #Spoutible , tell your friends!
Have a nice day ✌🏼
