There's just so much in this..."it's all 'politics' and stuff" (it's not...& people that say this likely don't have to worry about "politics" i.e. racism & bigotry).

But "there are people I'm not familiar with there"?? OMG, what am I to do if I go on a social media site & I don't know everyone??😬

What's the stuff part?
I did not know anyone when I joined on day one. Hmm, I have had a great time.

I have really enjoyed meeting new people I didn't know. It's been great.

If a person says "it's all politics" well if they aren't freaking out about it, they are privileged enough to ignore it or living under a damn rock imo.

"left-wingers" eh?
Suspect toasty would really hate Bluesky, even with the artists.

Perhaps 'Threads' may be more to their liking?

When I see the "it's all politics" posts, I usually look to see how many accounts they follow. It usually isn't very many. I am not sure people understand the no algorhythm means you see the accounts you follow. Follow more accounts, see more variety seems to eliminate a lot of the echo chamber

Exactly. It's just takes a little more effort to get the feed you want, but to me that's more satisfying.

Fair point! It's also a screenshot someone shared of a Bluesky user, whose opinion I care less about than toast...*

*Not saying everyone on Bluesky is inherently bad, but that as they're not on here their opinion of this site doesn't interest me

Indeed. To ignore politics at this time is a reflection of how protected you feel if the authoritarians come to power.

twitter used to offer me a diverse set of folks to listen to. That diversity disappeared in the last year+. Women, various ethnic / religious groups, LGBTQ+. Many are now here! ...

So for me (cishet boomer) it's the opposite of an echo chamber. It's getting exposed again to a LOT of viewpoints, and I like that.

As far as the "left wing echo chamber" thing, after Xitter, anything based on logical reasoning and wanting all humans to be free and prosper is left wing drivel.

I came in as a Beta (user, not fish). I knew no one. Not sure I do, yet. But I sure like the people I follow : music, recipes, news, and yes, politics. Not sure about the Canadians yet. But I’m from MN. So Canadian-adjacent!

Yeah, that's generally said by offensive people. Also, while I don't think Spoutible is an echo chamber...someone who finds it to be a left wing one is likely to get banned pretty quick for saying something bigoted.

100%. I know it'd be cool to have the "familiar" people everyone loves to follow because that'll ultimately make Spoutible more sustainable. But I never followed 99% of those people anyway, & the interactions here feel more genuine.

Anyone who sees my spouts with any sort of regularity knows that Spoutible isn't "all politics" because lol I am basically anything but politics.

"I looked ONCE and I didn't like what I saw, boo hoo, why can't you make me like it?!?" is how fucking stupid this sounds ¯_(ツ)_/¯
