We all remember, in U.S.A. schools, ordering books from the Scholastic Book Fair in elementary school. Scholastic just made an opt-in option for schools to remove all books that show any type of diversity from their catalog. It’s just a matter of checking a box.

How vile. They should be ashamed — and boycotted.

I think if I were a parent of elementary aged kids, I would be buying my kids books elsewhere if the school opted out on this bullshit, and write both a letter with my opinion on the subject.

Sadly have to say it doesn't surprise me #Scholastic is doing this. As elementary librarian in a school w/94% free lunch students, mostly #AfricanAmerican & #AAPI kids I did these 2x/yr. Its a behometh corp w/no backbone. I much preferred giving these FREE #books away! https://www.rif.org/

This is sad. I remember these book fairs and loved that it was still available when my kiddo was younger.

Unfortunately, this is further proof that these folks rely heavily on us following norms and traditions that they silently attack and destroy from within. Many won’t see this slight of hand.

Precisely! They are doing their best to whittle us away into non existence in the school system right in front of our face.

This is terrible! I wish people understood that it is just a few people causing all this havoc.

Another corporation has decided to make its peace with fascism, and find its place in the new order.

This breaks my heart I used to volunteer at kiddos elementary book fair which was a Schoolastic event. I used to read those books back in school to. Guess they dont care about the black/brown kids anymore.

This is troubling and disappointing, but it's actually kind of difficult to find information about this. I know there are a few claims on Reddit and other anecdotes, but does anyone have evidence that Scholastic is offering diverse/non-diverse books and which books are considered offensive?

They are leaving it up to each school district to decide in having books with or without diversity within the catalog they offer to the kids. White nationalism wins again.

I spent 10 years as the book fair chairperson at my children’s school. Scholastic is a money grubbing business. This is disappointing but not surprising.

I know me too. Going to the Scholastic Book Fairs in elementary was something I looked forward to ever year and sometimes twice a year. I remember begging my mom for as much money as possible so I could buy all the books I wanted. I feel so betrayed by this company.
