Do you understand your account’s privacy settings?

I ask this because a lot of the comments re: followers seem to indicate that people believe that followers have special access.

You’re wrong and let me tell you why.

First up in privacy settings is Messages. You have the choice of allowing direct messages from

1. Everyone
2. People you follow
3. No one.

Note that followers is not at option.

Then comes Account Privacy

Who can see my profile and spouts?

1. Everyone
2. My followers

This is the only one that involves followers.

Beyond that, on individual spouts, you can decide who can reply to you.

1. Everyone
2. People mentioned
3. People you follow

So unless your account is set to private, people can respond based on your selection. The default is everyone. Followers are not mentioned.

Even if you limit replies, if someone can see your spout, they can quote-spout it.

So my question to you is why are you blocking new followers, given the above info?

If your account is on private, this doesn’t apply. That’s the only way to lock down your account.

Gonna look at these settings again.
Not long ago, got notification of a reply to my spout; I could read it in notifications but in context it wasn’t visible & was identified “this spout is visible only to ppl this account follows”
1. Didn’t make sense
2. Not overly obsessing on it
3. And yet, see 1

That’s a private account for sure. Just note that if you change the settings for who can reply to you, they can still quote you. And it will be the same situation in your notifications 🙂

If you have settings as Dani shows, what happens??
“Literal me” says that only accounts set to private can see your spouts.
“Not so literal me” hope that “can’t reply” was left off the last choice
Any ideas??

Imo, activate all of these would make for a pretty lonely experience. It’s wonderful that we have the options, but I feel most aren’t necessary.
