The pain of loss or illness that many people are enduring is, unfortunately, largely overlooked during the holidays. It shouldn’t be forgotten that many are experiencing sadness and need our compassion and understanding.

Yeah, my dad passed away last Friday. It's a struggle especially for mom. She has a problem with short term memory and she's confabulating really dark things about how dad died. I can only imagine how much worse it is for her.

There is nothing, nothing that makes the loss of a parent easy to deal with emotionally. Ideally They were your first champions, mine was, But that sudden absence in ones life After they are gone never really disappears. Like any wound, it just kind of scabs over. Leaving a scar & the memories of it

It is hard. I find that when I do whatever it is I need, I get through the tough moments a little easier. Sending love to you as you experience this first ❤️

This is my first Thanksgiving with my Mom still hanging on, but barely able to communicate. That is also hard.

I can empathize with you, we always miss our loved ones, it just seems like the holidays exacerbate the pain even more...IMO its because we associate so much happiness and joy with them. May her soul rest in perfect peace 🙏

Omg same! She died on Oct 18. I am doing the cooking this year. I’ve already heard her micromanaging in my head. Miss her so much.

The first of each holiday is especially tough. Surround yourself with good friends and family or don't - whatever feels right. Talk to her, write to her, listen to her favorite music, and be kind to yourself. Hugs.

I'm sorry; these are difficult "firsts."

My mom has been gone a few years and we weren't close at the end but Thanksgiving is always tough because her cooking made it my favorite holiday. I have an email from her on how long to cook the turkey that I re-read every year.
