While I applaud the encouragement of engagement, and have had great interactions with many here, I'm hesitant to punish those that are perhaps just feeling their way around. Everyone has their own reasons for how they approach things. I say give them a chance. 💚

I've suggested a security option in which we can automate the choice not to accept followers with less than x number of spouts or echoes or likes.

Thanks... rewrote a few times before spouting!

Exactly. If someone's profile is nothing but Echoes, I tend not to follow them because I'd rather follow someone for their views and writing than someone else's. I'd be more likely to take a chance on them if we had the ability to follow but filter out Echoes, but that's not an option yet.

I suspect one of those reasons a person may be reluctant to spout is that they grew to regret tweeting and have not yet come to trust that this site is different.

I agree. The only reason I would use those features is if I was being targeted by trolls and I would only activate them temporarily. Other than that, I’ve followed back just about every user who has followed me regardless of spouts, likes, bio etc. I can always unfollow or block if they bother me.

I would hope my followers engage because I do like to get to know people and I get feedback on my posts but I would never turn someone away because they lurk. Unless they’re Nazis. No Nazis.

Agreed... No Nazis! Another reason we are all migrating here.

And I like getting to know everyone and their points of view, but I'm not forcing anyone to. Again, everyone has their own reasons and their own timetable.

I don't understand why it matters how many spouts someone has? Maybe they just like to read the posts. They aren't hurting anyone.

I was thinking I just want to know someone is real and maybe a little bit about their perspective. Even if they just have a few likes, I follow them back.

They aren't doing anything wrong, but also not showing why anyone should follow them while giving the impression of being a bot. At least fill out your bio and say you are a lurker

yeah we're not all social butterflies. Some ppl just read and don't engage. Let's not force them or make them feel not included.

whole damn point of this site was supposed to be inclusion.

Exactly this! I see people elsewhere criticize the activity on here. They can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact this isn't the popularity pageant Twitter is. We just want to exist here, at our own pace, doing our own things. Those who do wish to grow an audience can and seem to easily.

Not forcing anyone. I just feel more comfortable knowing they are real or knowing something about them. I am comforted that I can block later if needed. I follow back if they have at least liked liked few spouts. It should be ok for me to do that, just as for others to approach it how they want.
