My mom died on the 4th of July. I’ll never forget that date. But was it 7 or 8 years ago now? I had to put it in my electronic calendar on her birthdate so that I can remember the year. 🥲

Love to you dear. I can't tell you exactly when the losses occurred but I do know where I was when I got the terrible news. For many of us especially the empathetic one like President Biden it's always about how it felt not when it happened. Mr. Hur's actions are evil.

Sometimes I can't remember whether my father died in 2017 or 2018 (I don know it was July 18) and I try to reconstruct other things that were happening before and after. One time I looked on wikipedia. That's an embarrassing thing to admit but I think it might be normal.

Thank you for articulating so many of the feeling that were suddenly stirred up in me by terrible hack. I, too, struggle to remember the exact day my mom died, although it is THE defining event of the second half of my life.

When one reaches an age far younger than POTUS, one starts to chronicle in events rather than dates. The order of events is how one tracks the passing of time more so than by the year. Months & days can stick in the mind, but years feel less important to track.

What a beautiful letter. When I read that portion talking about the death of his son, I could see part of the time travel to that time and I could feel the losses and how relatable that experience is. I’m sorry you lost your mom and your brother. You have heart and compassion. Blessings

The day that I got that breathless, fateful phone call from the doctor at the hospital entreating me to get there as quickly as possible for my wife is forever burned into my brain. The fact that she officially died two days later is inconsequential to that initial gut-wrenching moment.

When my best friend and roommate for a decade died, I am the one who found him at the bottom of the basement stairs. I can tell you what his skin felt like as I tried to find a pulse. How my heart felt as I dialed 911. Do not ask me the date, my mind refuses to remember the date, only that moment.
