Probably Death from the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett or Luggage.
Death because he loves cats, has a horse named Binky and is quite hilarious a lot of the time.
Luggage, made of sapient pearwood, because this is such a mysterious character. I want to know what makes Luggage tick.
