Thinking about making a 19 hour playlist for our drive out to St. Louis in 2 weeks that lines up with the states we'll be traveling through. It'll be hard to come up with hours of Vermont and Indiana songs, but NY, PA, OH, and IL shouldn't be a problem... 🤣

Multi-instrumentalist Crystal Taliefero is (like the Jacksons) from Gary, Indiana. It's hard to find good-quality you tube videos of her -- lots of amateur video of her touring with Billy Joel. This looks to be recorded pandemic-distancing style.

1/2 Indiana you also have the option of listening to music from Axel Rose of Guns N Roses, Michael Jackson, Jackson 5, John Mellencamp (Johnny Cougar), BabyFace, country singer Crystal Gayle (born in KY but raised in IN), Burl Ives, Houndmouth, or Joshua Bell. IN has deep roots in blues & jazz and

2/2 played a crucial role in the development of ragtime with the composers like Scott Joplin calling it home. I hope this gave you some ideas.

Maybe add some Gennett Records jazz, blues, or country. The small city of Richmond, Indiana is just over the state line from Ohio. It was a hub for recording in the 1920s. (And also for Ohioans who wanted to marry in a hurry.)

EVERY road trip should begin with Orange Blossom Special by Seatrain...
And somewhere I there. Quicksilver Messenger Service..long version of Who Do You Love....careful though...one tends to go a bit too fast when either plays....

Songs about the state, or songs by artists from the state? For Pennsylvania, are we talking “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Allentown,” and “The Pennsylvania Poker” or Bill Haley, Patti Labelle, Pink, The Roots, etc.? As a Pennsylvanian by birth, I’m intrigued!

Either! I was thinking of starting with songs about then branching out to "artists from." Definitely tons about PA – plus we'll only be driving through for a couple of hours before hitting OH.

It is a surprisingly tough state to get through, being all mountains... Not nearly as long as some of the other states, but we'll have to drive most of the way south then cross to NY, which takes a bit over 3 hours.
