For me, probably the worst part of the CNN debacle was learning that they instructed the “town hall” participants that they were NOT allowed to boo Trump, but could only applaud him — and failed to disclose those ground rules to TV viewers. That’s absolutely inexcusable.

Giving a convicted sexual assaulter a huge microphone with a cheering audience to make a dollar isn't journalism. The owners of these media outlets need to be exposed and publicly shamed. The stinking rich should not be able to hide behind their fortresses, or we will be bound to obey them.

It’s actually great that CNN exposed their poor behavior now rather than later in the cycle. In 2015, it wouldn’t have been a scandal. The number of ways both advertising and Republicans subvert democracy is dizzying. And Democratic Americans are ready for it now I think.

Too bad they didn’t also highlight the St Anselm students who protested that he was coming to their campus. 🤨

OK, that’s so NOT journalism. What the heck was that all about? All news should report this information.

Apparently it was about attracting a certain audience, probably as part of a longer term strategy (business and/or otherwise).

Chris Licht has been honest from the start that his goal was to turn CNN into "Fox Lite" & steal the Fox audience. That's what this is all about. IMO, casual observer only.

I would give anything to be in that audience now, just so I could be the lone "boo".

Fine, kick me out, it was worth it.

That would reinforce (i.e., provide further self justification for) MAGA lib-hating, and Trump is well practiced at using such to his advantage and using it to stoke the audience further.

CNN simply set up the BigTop 🎪 inside their supposed news outlet. Almost like airing “War of the Worlds” on radio, without clearly informing the full audience. 😐😒

CNN televised a Trump rally. You can't, and shouldn't keep a US presidential candidate off the airwaves, but you HAVE TO set out and adhere to, certain limits. I believe he should be put in a soundproof booth, and his prior unhinged rant should be fact-checked in real time.

You hit the nail on its head, in my view. The media help a convicted sexual predator with free publicity. The owners of the media outlets gain by this, or they wouldn't do it. It's not journalism, it's propaganda. Journalists should know the difference. The media normalizes violent hate speech.

malfeasant or incompetent? Lawrence O'Donnell showed how juvenile the questioning of Trump was.
The coverage of the “Trump crowd” response was also superficial. Yes, there was Trump cult fools but also sections of the audience were clearly uncomfortable with Trumps lies and rudeness.
