I think Courtney Milan and Olivia Waite's concerns about the TOS here (among others in Romancelandia) should be aired and discussed.
10:48 AM - Feb 20, 2023
Oh yes, it's all a great conspiracy and not *checks notes* actual authors concerned about if their social media will get banned because of the work they do, or *checks notes* actual lawyers concerned about if we can't talk about sexual harassment.

I'm going to be that person who moves into a new place but continues to live mostly out of their suitcase. Because you have no idea when the landperson will decide to kick you out.
It's not pleasant but it can be done.😆
(And this is my cue to step away...😅)

This is a generous offer, @cbouzy There’s a huge community of writers&readers called Romancelandia & an equally large group of YA (young adult) readers w writers whose YA books are being banned simply for including LBGTQ characters. We are all on edge. Please let @courtneymilan help you clarify.
12:25 PM - Feb 19, 2023
All I’m asking people to understand is that you can prohibit adult content with clear language where the answer to someone’s question of “can I post this?” is not “just post it and see if you end up getting banned!”
12:45 PM - Feb 19, 2023
I don’t think the people who wrote the policy thought about the ways people talk about sex. Are we are going to argue whether HBO’s GOT is more rapey than the book series? Are we gonna discuss if that one sex scene in Bridgerton is a rape? Can I screenshot a court case about harassment?
11:51 AM - Feb 19, 2023
Courtney is probably one of the people I trust the most to see a site's TOS for what they are and how they will be used to harm artists.
You would be wise to follow her and *listen* to what she's saying. Don't talk over these concerns.

Courtney Milan @courtneymilanY’all please don’t tell people who are wondering whether this site is going to pull a Tumblr and make it impossible to talk about the thing they do for a living that they’re “just getting mad” because we “want to make controversy.”11:48 AM - Feb 19, 2023
No. We’re trying to figure out if we want to invest time here.
11:54 AM - Feb 19, 2023
Whatever you think of adult content on this site directly, this is not good language, it’s not good policy, and it is extremely fixable. @cbouzy I am happy to help try to come up with a policy that provides clear guidance, meets general aims of external bodies, while preserving necessary discussion.
11:55 AM - Feb 19, 2023
Wondering if @cbouzy can clarify what the Adult Nudity and Sexual Content policy means for writers since they are moving over from Twitter. Particularly posting about and linking to romance novels with adult content. Some are concerned they will get in trouble.

This is concerning because no posting of movies, tv shows, books and even music videos?
10:25 AM - Feb 19, 2023
In response to Ground Control.
Indeed. As a creator whose focus is on human connection (romance novels and romcom films and tv) (but really isn’t all art about human connection?!) this is a huge problem.
10:53 AM - Feb 19, 2023
So… doesn’t this apply to links to TV series & movies, too? My film OUT OF BODY (a gay paranormal romcom) has a love scene filmed w lots of gauze/romantic lighting. My TV series (MarriageOfInconvenience, on Dekkoo 4/6/23!!) has a gritty bathroom hookup. Neither are unusual for movies/TV. ? @cbouzy ?
Courtney Milan @courtneymilanJust to be clear: I’m pretty sure that posting links to romance novels that contain sex scenes violates this policy.09:17 AM - Feb 19, 2023

So… are posting those links gonna get me removed because I’m linking to a movie that includes sex, like the vast majority of romcoms do?

I had a feeling it was coming and that's why I haven't really shared this account as a way to stay in contact.
I mean, half my photography work is MIA here (except profile pic) because I can't risk posting even implied nudity.

The new godking says they won't apply to things like that, but, again, this is a new site with new content moderators so none of us know how far they'll take it.

“It’s fine with me if people don’t talk about romance novels”
Okay but is the link to my website a violation of policy?

I thought they'd revisit the site rules polls once the site opened, but no they're going off the polls that less than 5% of the total user base will ever see or know about.

It's christian based censorship and honestly it is exhausting to see everyone excuse it because they hate one rich white man more than they like artists of all flavors.

Yeah, and it can get tough to maintain the querying momentum when your heart gets into that new project and the “old flame” doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere.
09:40 AM - Feb 19, 2023
Lol "It's been 84 [Writer's] years" - we've all been there 😂
For me its the querying that feels Titanic-lady long. I always have to jump into another draft of something or I go crazy during querying.

Peace Zodanou @peacezodanouIt's Sunday!!! Time for another #Been84WriterYears talk. I wanted to take the snarky route but I'm snarked out this week because irl threw me some curveballs.😭08:39 AM - Feb 19, 2023
How about we talk process? As in how long it takes to get your work ready to query. #WritingCommunity
(I'm going to try a thread.)

One of the things the last six weeks have taught me is how extremely ridiculous bipedal walking is, as a concept. Throw one little thing off and twenty things follow.

So, I see the discussion has turned to whether or not Adult Content creators should be on spoutible.com. My $.02? let them come but require their posts be marked NSFW 🔞. I don't mind but a lot of people are triggered by pornography. Make it safe for SW's and civilians by giving us a choice.
