Today the Supreme Court is hearing a case on whether or not homeless people can be punished for sleeping outside when there's no shelter space available
This is the biggest case on the issue of homelessness in decades and could de facto criminalize being homeless

What if you could walk from your home, order a coffee, and greet the neighbor that runs the place rather than driving your car to a Starbucks on a busy, sterilized stroad and ordering an overpriced drink from a soulless corporation?
Unfortunately, this is most likely illegal to build in your town.

The French government is currently in the process of drafting legislation to help cities across the country transition away from what they call "ugly France".
A big part of that transition involves re-purposing the excessive parking lots dotting most suburban areas.

There are ZERO.
Again, ZERO studies that show adding lanes reduces traffic.
Adding lanes leads to induced demand, where increased road capacity causes more traffic congestion rather than relieving it.
So you NEVER want to add another lane.

Cambridge's Garden Street upgrade project nearly QUADRUPLED bike ridership!
This project shows how a separated bike lane increases bike ridership even in winter weather.
Fear of cars is a bigger barrier to biking than fear of cold hands.

More cars = less friends. 🚗
People living on streets with heavy traffic do have less friends and less acquaintances on average.
This is the result of the landmark analysis by Donald Appleyard of how urban traffic destroys communities.
The conclusion: Cars make us lonely.

Noise pollution is real and it will affect the property value of your home.
A study of road noise in Sweden: each decibel is worth a 0.6% discount in property prices. So if your street is noisy your home value can drop by 30%.
The main culprit is almost always cars.

One of the most common misunderstandings about transport: most travel is *not* to and from work.
The most common trip purpose for UK citizens was shopping (151 trips per person). This was followed by commuting (119 trips per person). Commuting does account for the longest distance travelled.

Recent study found that people are absolutely willing to pay to have ‘physically separated bicycle tracks’. On top of that, their willingness to pay for it INCREASES as you get older. Why? Older people value cycling for its low-impact exercise, promotion of independence and connection to community

The average car payment has nearly doubled over the past 5 years:
New. Used
2022 $717 $563
2017 $529 $389
We need a transportation system that isnt going to lock in and suffocate Americans with this kind of inflation.
