It is insane how hard people will fight against something that will ultimately be incredibly GOOD for them. Once they have it, they'll be ashamed they ever fought against it.

Yes, I love this! I've read that those who use public transit, walk, and bike to get around are actually more supportive of their communities than those who drive.
Way to support small businesses! You're a star!

Right?! I would love to see more small businesses like these that bring the community together. The reason we don't see it is usually because of parking minimums that make no sense or a weird zoning law that favors big commercial stuff. We could easily have more small stuff if we tried.

I love this and I hope that we can see more and more walkable neighborhoods here in the USA. They are amazing!

Fear of cars and trucks is the #1 reason people don't bike more according the Dept of Transportation.
Put in separated, protected bike lanes and ridership shoots up.

I apologize for being condescending as that was not my intention but I can see how it is. I should have phrased it more so as follows,
"It is true, but just because solar isn't perfect it would be worth while rolling this out to dense locations across the US. Is that something you could support?"

So you're saying that we shouldn't do it anywhere because it wouldn't be optimal everywhere? That would be silly don't you think?

Isn't that so crazy! I believe we've read the same study because I want to say that drivers also gave more room to bicyclists who had "long blond hair". We shouldn't have to depend on drivers for our own safety. Shrink the lanes for driving and make more space for living.

I've heard some call them "pavement princesses" and "cowboy cosplayers" which I enjoy immensely.

That makes perfect sense. The reason you don't see more people on bicycles is because they don't have a bike lane and are terrified of being hit by a car
I added an article here with a study on that if you're interested

Of course, e-vehicles have their place and can be a great option for people. While I'm excited about the potential of evs, bikes are the clear winner; producing zero emissions, requiring minimal resources, and are healthier. Either way we are moving forward to better, more sustainable transit.

It makes sense. I've seen many European countries pass similar laws, but here in the USA we are struggling to enact anything similar. I hope that as more people learn about these issues that something good can come of it.

Amsterdam is truly my favorite place on the planet. I loved there for a year and it was transformative. I lost 60 pounds while eating the best food of my life. Their culture of multiple-transit orientation is the future this world needs, and all of us will be happier if we just copy them

You are doing much less environmental harm by switching to an ev. But you are correct, we need to shift away from individual transportation as the sole way of getting around (unless it's a bike, those are amazing in every way).

More cities each year are seeing the benefits and adopting "Open Street" Programs. It is very cheap to implement and the results are nearly always incredibly positive. People and businesses alike love it.

There is going to be some "survivor bias" from your survey as it is more likely that your respondents will be people who frequent the app the most and those who get on less often will likely not see it and thus underrepresent themselves.

Agreed. If you think about it, consent is genuinely the lowest tier of what you're looking for. It's like, 'Okay, great, you're not going to stab me.' That's like the bare minimum. What you're looking for is this wonderful thing called ✨participation✨.

Yes, less commutes will improve traffic around rush hours for sure. To see all around traffic improvement we need more mobility options.

Bad lane merges, innattentive drivers, lane closures, construction, garbage blowing in the wind, a curve in the road, change in the weather etc. A teeny hesitation can cause hours of delays

It is wild that people assume we are being "health nuts" just because we prefer to get around by walking or riding a bike. It is how most humans have gotten around since the dawn of man. I'd rather be connected to my community and enjoy the outdoors than drive. The health part just a nice bonus.

Yes, correlation is not causality. Luckily, there are many studies that have come to the same conclusion over the past 50 years from all across the globe. Many of which were conducted over the course of decades. I'm going to add some of my favorites and they are a great read if you have the time.

Absolutely. That is why we need connected, protected bike lanes. Everything has their place, but cars have become too large and too dominant to be the sole transportation method. Biking is better for businesses, riders, traffic, communities, and the environment than any car ever will be.
