When using yourself as the fool/fall guy in a story or skit, at what point do you know you've successfully employed the individual story to illustrate a universal human condition or truth (especially when accompanied by the insight of humor)?

Sometimes the internet is so odd: Was looking for images of elder Eastern European farmers and this one popped up!

Perfect for Halloween though.

Afterthought edit: captions anyone?

From a study shared by @drgavazzi (Ethics and Psychology). Certainly hope more research is underway.
Admittedly, my own confirmation bias on the subject is showing as I'm not competitive and have always thought "healthy competition" is an oxymoron.

Yeah, probably the proverbial exercise in futility, but can't help myself. When I see them wet, cold and not moving, they get a drop of honey. They immediately respond. You can see the proboscis dipped into the sweets.

Not a great camera on my phone (understatement) - the Bird feeder is literally 15' from my window. However, wanted to share the miracle of Mama Cardinal feeding her very late fledging. Pretty sure critters (Coons, Possums, house Wrens) destroyed two of their nests this season. So happy for her!

Do you have an opinion on this series or its author? My sit-down reading time is limited and saved for non-fiction, so I generally listen to novels. Rupert Degas performs this series as brilliantly as the author writes history/mystery via Australian characters.

As usual, had a wonderful visit here this morning. Spent far too long but I truly care about the folks here, your life stories, music and articles. Off for the day. Hoping yours is a good one.

@GailG Hello! Good heavens, what a day yesterday! With earplugs, headphones, closed eyes and you in mind, the MRI was not awful at all. Did some extra grocery shopping for company, Emil Maita's 1st professional grooming (meh) and then home to unexpectedly overnight company. Agack!

Mini break to see how you're faring, feeling and what on your mind. Looking forward to coming back to read a thread from @Lukearnold .

Clock is ticking for my son's wedding this month. The next couple weeks will be crazy-busy with out of town/state guests in and out plus all the requisite cleaning/cooking. Will love it all during and will be equally happy to have solitude returned. You understand.

Well dang it, Spouters! You did it again. I popped on far too often this morning because you're smart and engaging. Truly off to work now with a fave quote. My beloved madmen, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, understood the reality of absurdity*.

*Truly a key word in my understanding of our world.

Well, stopped in for a quick coffee visit, but as most often happens, the minds of integrity, beloved silliness and genuine humanity caught me.
Warms me as much as my little 'Capricious'* on this 43 degree morning.

*Named thus because of his initial behaviors.

It's a gorgeous day and have enjoyed a visit here this morning, but no matter, still want to share a favorite line from yesterday's book:

"If this isn't hell, the devil is surely taking notes." (Author - Stuart Turton)

It gave me a chuckle when thinking about politics.

Although I'd love to support Spoutible with a $25 recurring monthly amount, my $834 monthly income would not permit it. Thought I made a one time donation. Can you/the team please help me fix it ? Thank you.
(Reconfiguring budget to try for monthly $5)
Trusting only you see this post.

Pretty excited to finally be able to donate, but sad to see the words 'fight' and, even 'combat'.
Not just my opinion: language influences culture as much as culture influences language.
We don't need violent language.

My house works for truth and may work against something, but will not fight.

Because I could find no made in the USA wool socks in my town, I had to order online. At least was able to locate mostly USA made/materials from a company in my bioregion.
Bonus: The package of several new winter socks was a tiny boost on a dreary, damp day.

Along with Josephine Baker (the 'model' for many of paintings), Robin Wall Kimmerer, Pearl Bailey is one of my heroines.
One of my favorite quotes from her: "My kitchen is a mystical place, a kind of temple for me. It's a place where it seems surfaces have significance; where the sounds and...cont

Waiting for the dew to dry:

How is it that 64 degrees in the house after a 45 degree overnight feels colder than either 64 or 45 outdoors?

Glad there is warm kitchen work this morning.

Hope you enjoy your day as I am mine.

Not just for those of us who study myths:

There are a couple sentences which help to explain (not excuse) toxic masculinity.

Love this one courtesy of @455arf ! Belief doesn't (necessarily) equal reality. Been talking it for years. Religions teach us to believe, but I like the 'Doubting Thomas'. Give me empirical evidence! Maybe I'm a snot, but I don't believe anything; cringe when ppl press a point because of belief.

Or your Buckeye State, Big Sky State, Show Me State, Big Bend State, Magnolia State, Blue Grass State, Sunflower State... If you can't find it in your state, look in your region, then USA, then all of America, then...you get the idea.

"A Study of Economics as if People Mattered"

Have you read this classic? Not the words of a god, but I remember much of it as common sense. My original copy was 'loaned out' years ago (you know the book bleed), but my library is fetching one.

Logical fallacies are so very tricky. Some of the examples on this site aren't clear for the uninitiated, but it's a good start. Logical fallacies are heavy in political language and opinions so during an election cycle; it's important to be able to recognize them.

Turned out to be a fortuitous day. Not much rain, but damp and downright chilly. Perfect for a small fire in the woodstove to create enough coals to roast a half bushel of Poblanos and a few fat Sweet Reds.

Hoping we get a dribble from our 80% chance of rain. This hill seems to 'split' the weather. In other news, I'll be in the winter food factory (aka kitchen). Coyotes off the deck awakened us at 1:30a. Lucky Emil Maita went back to sleep.
Looking forward to news from you later today.
