This is so exciting for me. My grandfather made ornamental sewer covers for San Francisco in the 1930s-1940s and I leave for Japan in 2 weeks. So I will be on the lookout for sewer covers, lol.

I have coop envy and dare not show the girls your new coop or they are sure to stop laying on protest. :) Thanks for your clear posts on complex politics and your lovely posts on chickens (and knitting).

This one is creepy too. Showed up in the same thread and I think it was also a Brock communique, but I'm not certain. How sick are these people?

Queso! I didn't think about queso, though it topped the chili I was eating at the time. :)

I'm in Adam's district. He will be a hard act to follow. I live in a small canyon, 12 people lost their houses in the last fire. Adam contacted all of them. He contacted a friend of mine who lost her business. He has a HUGE area, and a huge job in Washington yet, he has been very hands-on here.

It is certainly memorable! I have a micro farm for poultry so I've had some experience in this area (but fortunately, not a lot). My friend put a random 'warm' egg she found in her bra and it exploded. Wooo EEEE that was a powerfully strong stink. Luckily, we still laugh about it. :)

Oooh. it is a real location? I used to work at the NY Daily News Building which was spectacular, and there are some lovely art Deco/steampunk-ish buildings in Mid-Town Manhattan. Maybe sets? Did you see the series Ratched? Loved the sets, and I thikn my neighbor did some of the costumes.

Crudup is such a great actor, I'm tempted to watch. Also, my Dad was a Mad Man in SF in the 1950s-1970s And I started in Advertising in the 1980s against my better judgement. Still a graphic designer, just not in advertising any longer.

I'm old-school. I like when reporters reported facts, not opinions. They still gave both sides of the story, but were not present in the story themselves.

I don't think they are that well known outside of the tropics, do you? We can grow them here in Southern CA (mostly along the coast) I was excited to have one growing here, but sadly, the peacocks ate it down to the roots.

That's pretty cool! at a coffeeshop in a tiny Philippine town 15,000 miles from home. A woman said you sound like you're from the US? I nodded and we winnowed it down CA, So Cal, Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, then my tiny canyon. She asked do you know Gordon? I said, he watching my house!

Oh sorry, yes! Yugoslavia was still a Russian satellite country and conditions were bleak. Commonly, people used the Russian newspaper "Pravda" cut into squares, as toilet paper in their outhouses/bathrooms.

I was in the former Yugoslavia in the early 1980s, From the border with Italy down to the border with Albania. Pravda squares were commonly used as toilet paper. My travel companion was excited to find Patrick Swayze on a square, which he tucked into his guidebook. :)

Pretty much. About the same size and shape as a turkey egg, but plain tan in color. Taste is similar to turkey egg as well. If you're in the US, I can send you a few later in the summer. They are seasonal layers
