Some of these near empty malls could be turned into Senior Living Facilities. They have enough space for everything one would need. Movie theater, walking track, gym, food court, grocery store, fountains to sit around, etc. They could have an onsite doctor's office. The potential is there.

I expect this to happen in most states that refused federal Medicaid funding, including my state of Tennessee. Our rural hospitals have closed and other providers are leaving. This is the GOP economic plan in action.

Fingers crossed. It would be fantastic if it also got rid of the feeling of a middle/inner ear being stabbed with an icepick.
Guilty! @Whoa
I've got tinitus too. It does suck. 😥 But I recently read an article that scientists may have figured out how to cure it with stem cells or something. Only a matter of time before the treatment becomes mainstream if it works, so there's hope on the horizon.

she agrees Bidenomics benefits the service sector but disagrees with the framing (pro-manufacturing). i don't oppose her demographics but her conclusion. giving more Americans more stuff won't work when there's a fundamental disagreement about what the US should be. reactionaries can't be won over.

My Hot Take: I love this woman's political analysis. Probably because it's akin more to mine, which is slightly left of center. Dems keep chasing that elusive mid-west Wypipo vote at the expense of their core voters. (Gifted)

Coming of Age in Mississippi, a memoir by Anne Moody.

I read it when I was in middle school & it was the first time I realized what it truly meant to a Black person living in the South. Especially being poor & also fighting for civil rights.

Will also point out it didn't help that Hilary had plenty of accumulated baggage at that point especially thanks to being a favorite punching bag of right wing media for years.

This three-part series provides a comprehensive analysis of the media's impact on electoral outcomes, the problems with polling, and my forecasts for 2024. This first thread delves into the 2016 election and examines the significant influence of news outlets in the rise and election of Donald Trump.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I threw it down and refused to read on after the mother explained she was favoring the boy over his sister because she could manage, but he needed help. I wished I hadn't got that far!

Do you have any literary regrets? A book that you really wish you hadn't read or wish you'd stopped reading at some point?

Mine is Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. I was warned but kept reading. Just. Don't.

Yes, Gone With the Wind. Having been told—many times—that it was wonderful and romantic, and being only 18 or so, I read it three times and hated it more each time. It did cure me of wasting time on books I do not enjoy and I have freely abandoned books I find myself disliking mid-read ever since.

The chaos has not and is NOT normal. We have not seen this amount of fuckery since the civil war days. And the stakes are just as high now as then. Please pay attention!!

Spent about a day processing 'indictment watch' news from yesterday.
Gotta say, as a bit of a history junkie, this is a BFD.
Unfortunately since 2015 the MAGA orcs have 'numbed' collective electorate to accept 45's chaos as normalcy.
The has not, and is normal. Please pay attention y'all.

I saw the original Star Wars trilogy way back when they came out, but didn't see *any* of the other until 2022. I binge-watched 11 movies in chrono order. I liked them much more than I thought I would. Especially Rogue One. I love Andor, too.
Jeannie (she/her) @jeannie
I've been lax in trying to build connections here, so here's my (probably awkward) attempt to remedy that.

What's a movie that, in your opinion, absolutely lives up to the hype?

I recently watched Raging Bull for the 1st time. It was even better than I anticipated.

NOT at all a fan of Mitch McConnell. Wished many a tragedy upon him. But I'm actually a human being and that authentically scared me for him. I think when faced with it in reality, the fantasy of not being humane vanishes with me.
