In Michigan in the 80's-90s we were taught the Civil War was fought over slavery but the embellishment was that as Northerners we were the good guys who stopped slavery. Of course this completely ignores that slavery was once all over this nation and we genocided most of the Indigenous people.

I was "on the doors" for Rep. Lauren Underwood's first race. I not only talked to people about her agenda, but I was stunned at how many people didn't know (1) how government works (federal/state/county) and (2) how to vote. I was happy to explain. An amazing, fulfilling experience.
