Right now we have total leeway, with no protections, no consent and no compensation at all. Is there any contract we can even imagine that would take away all leeway?

Pick up a phone and make the deal, if not because it’s the right thing to do, then do it because you have to to survive.

And all because the companies refuse to not only meet the reasonable proposals of the unions, but the companies refuse to even speak to them.

Self-destruction that hurts others is bad.

Investors and shareholders are rumbling or in open revolt against the companies’ leadership, even suing the CEO and others at at least one of them in multiple lawsuits.

One of their most valuable franchises: getting cost cut because the studios are hurting, badly.

A major streamer had nothing new to offer the entire US on the last big holiday weekend.

I;m not sure in any industry or career a group of stubborn companies is a reason in and of itself to abandon the industry or career. But I get that practicalities matter too. Nothing wrong with refocusing or pausing from time to time whatever the reason.

I'm not sure a contract impasse by itself would lead me or others to abandon the career. If acting didn't exist, I'm not sure exactly what career I'd like, perhaps writing or something involving computers and the internet (which I have worked professionally in).

The strike has bad impacts. I'm ok right now myself (that show is not something ongoing for me, and not a source of income for me). There are resources for those impacted by the strikes, like the Entertainment Community Fund.

It's sad the AMPTP is choosing to do this. Destructive of them.

Yes, I happily am a member of SAG-AFTRA.

This was for a stage show and so not under SAG-AFTRA.

Don’t have your voting PIN? You can get it on that site right now.

Not paid up? Dues extension is available. Pay gradually & still vote yes for better wages & less hardship: https://www.sagaftra.org/m...

Probably true. Plus, since humans writing successful material is not fully defined, it is unlikely machines can succeed when success is not actually completely understood.

Yes. The AMPTP seems hellbent on the destructive pageant of a strike, when we all know they''' eventually make a deal anyway.

Ok. I hope things here don’t go the way Twitter has been. That’s my biggest concern here.

Ah, that makes sense. The apps are a better interface, both on Mastodon and Twitter (Spoutible does not have an app) and some instances (servers) have improved the web interface for Mastodon.

Whatever works and doesn’t end up with us building again somewhere that fails as Twitter is sounds good.

How long did you try Mastodon for? I’ve been on their only months and already have community and conversations, including industry conversations, rivaling what took many years to build on Twitter.
