He did use some kind of cold spray, but the needle still hurt. Either it didn't quite sink in as deep as I needed, or it didn't work. No electric stim for me. I had one 10 days ago and it did help, but right now I'm a bit cranky about how much pain the injection itself has left behind!

The Dr. used several things to drastically reduce the trauma/pain.
1) Electrical stimulation at several points on my ankle.
2) Cold numbing spray for the first injection which was Lydocain to numb the joint.
3) Then Cortisone.
