Next, a piece from a writer who asked people why they left the church. The main reason? The refusal to accept LGBTQ+ people. Other reasons include the church's embrace of Trump (IOW, support for intolerance and cruelty toward others). Who wants to be in community with those who reject community?

#PairedTexts

Very interesting to pair these texts. First, a piece from a writer who claims people are leaving the church because they are working too much and have become too individualistic. He argues that what people need is to go back to church to be in community with others.

This is so important, especially to save the smaller farms.

“Most of us don’t even know that the public dollars initially designed to protect farmers and keep supply managed to feed a hungry nation in the Great Depression are now reinforcing wealthy agribusiness corporations to grow commodities that are not even meant for human consumption,"

“Moon and Smoke,” by Japanese artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892), color woodblock print, this impression sold at auction, Christie’s New York, for $940 in 2022. Being a print, other impressions are in several collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago. #Arthistory

Any of you remember the "Satanic Panic" of the 80's? Conservative religious groups claiming Heavy Metal music was turning children in to Satan worshippers. Created programs to de-metal the children.

It seems to me the LGBTQ+ manufactured outrage has direct parallels.

Just a thought.

I know there is a lot going on, but when multi-billionaires like Zuckerberg, Musk, and Bezos control our most vital platforms for communication, it’s not a win for free speech. It’s a win for oligarchy.

Just thought I should remind everyone of that.

Looked at threads. So far, this is still my favorite alternative. There are a lot of peope there since they could port over an entire IG audience but that's about it

So, what is my point? The next Twitter will not emerge through hype. We often forget why Twitter became Twitter in the first place. For any platform to endure, it must first establish a foundation of devoted users and grow organically. The platform's culture ultimately determines its destiny.

The arrival of Bluesky sparked an overwhelming response, with notable figures like AOC and Stephen King joining. Due to the immense hype, many believed Bluesky could challenge Twitter's dominance. However, similar to the previous hyped apps, Bluesky eventually blended in as just another alternative.

For nearly a year, we have observed individuals chasing after the next Twitter high. Initially, Mastodon seemed to be the promising choice. However, the initial excitement quickly faded. Then came Post News, which garnered significant attention from journalists who claimed it would be hard to beat.

Then we introduced Spoutible. Unlike its predecessors, Spoutible never experienced a surge of hype or lofty expectations as the ultimate Twitter replacement. Nevertheless, we had a dedicated group of supporters, and our user base grew organically. We had periodic surges, but never succumbed to hype.

I know Spoutible isn't perfect, but look at what we have accomplished as a community in just seven months. Spoutible went from an idea discussed on Twitter, to a platform we all can proud of. The Spoutible community is a force to be reckoned with, and we are just getting started.

Therefore I tell you,

do not worry about your life,

what you will eat or drink;

or about your body,

what you will wear.

Is not life more than food,

and the body more than clothes?

We need a democratic space to gather. I’m going to try and be on here more regularly. It’s important we have networks like this that allow us access to reputable news sources.
