Oh, I remember - Mom used to buy green because the bathroom was green. And for years after they stopped doing that, they were still printing patterns on it. We found a package of printed TP in Mr. N's late mother's place, when we were cleaning it out. Wild.

His family still runs the winery - maybe we'll go when we start seeing an end in sight to moving out west, there are several places we want to visit before we're out of OH for good.

There was a biology professor from Wright State U who started a winery north of us. We've been there a few times - he died right before COVID, we haven't been back, but he also was growing some oddball stuff, some created for the Midwest, some from out of region. Wine geek winery owners are great.

There's a winery in New York State that does mostly West Coast grapes, but in their climate - the pinot and cabernet is really interesting, in a different climate and soil. Mr. N and I are both kind of sciency nerds, so that part of it is really interesting.

It was one of our milestone anniversaries - we try to do something nice on the big ones. Flew from OH to Portland and did the OR wine area, then drove a rental up through WA and visited Seattle, did a wine tour. We also did this in CA, and also VA and the Finger Lakes in NY. We have a theme.

We took a couple of curated tours in WA and OR some years ago. Elk Cove was on the tour, they're fantastic.

Highly recommend the Wikipedia article on this one - the male lead was on "The Young and The Restless" for most of its run, I remember him, but not this series:

The rich who don't pay into SS above a certain level (above which less than 10% of the population resides) are the ones buying politicians who vote to raise the retirement age.

He tries to boss her around, kisses her, hugs her, etc. - probably makes her feel guilty if she's uneasy about it - and then wonders why she might think he wants to have sex with her. That was the second thing that occurred to me, after all the other "men know better, it's my job, little girl" crap.

Same, that's why I responded. I know the general feeling. It sucks, but most of the time it passes, at least around here.

Hell, even if you did a book-by-book adaptation of the New Testament, the variations in the crucifixion story would stun a lot of people who consider themselves religious but never actually read the thing.

Worse than that, I think they do see it, they either don't care, or they think it's a feature, not a bug. If it means they can maintain power/hegemony, the ends justify the means.

One of the reasons we'll eventually get to NM is, the only problem they have there is wildfires, and if you're in a city, there's not enough dry vegetation to present a problem most of the time. The tornadoes have gone north of where we are here in OH, but any day they could hit us.

Eh. I get the take, it's not entirely without merit, but I live in a high working class/middle class Midwestern 'burb neighborhood where there are plenty of kids out with basketballs, bikes, scooters, etc. on nice days. The noise alone argues against the point of the cartoon.

Threw a link in my bookmark folder - Mr. N and I talked about a PR vacation not long before the hurricane blew the hell out of the place. I was there once, around 1990, as a day trip from a cruise my first husband got free for working at a contractor on a ship. Loved it, but haven't been back.

I know, right? Of course, 15 years later, a tornado passed a couple of miles north of their house in their tiny SW Ohio town. We get them here, in west central Ohio, every year. Didn't used to get near as many in Ohio - wonder if something has changed with the climate?

Have talked about buying banana leaves at some point, there were recipes from the gulf coast of Mexico and Costa Rica we had at the hotels we stayed in, over the years, that required them. We could probably roll tamales in them, too, though it's traditionally cornhusks.

Bookmarked - thanks! We frequently use the slow-cooker, but sometimes I do it in the oven, and I use the cast iron Dutch oven for those things.

Mom, Dad, little bro' made a trip mid-spring from SW Ohio to south central NM, 40 years ago. They stopped for gas in Shamrock, TX on the last leg of the trip. An hour after they headed on down our way, two tornadoes crossed the highway near the gas station. They didn't know until they got in.

Worked for a small, private university. We were told we couldn't accept any gift valued at more than $5. A student who felt I'd gone above and beyond tried to give me a $10 box of chocolates. I made her sit down and eat some with me so it wasn't purely a gift. Screw Cannon, Alito, Thomas, etc.

We love rosemary with pork around here. Bought our Lodge pieces on Amazon at least 10 years ago, I have a 12, a 10, and a Dutch oven I use mostly for baking bread boules. Most of the sauces I cook myself are acid-based, which ain't great for cast iron.
