The fact that many Americans cannot recognize fascism unless it looks exactly like Nazi Germany is very dangerous.

The odd thing? trump literally operates from Mein Kampf. His words, his tactics, all the same. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Previous admin shared striking similarities with Mussolini style fascism. Fetishizing of military/paramilitary style law enforcement, cult of personality authoritative leadership, media bashing,, demonizing marginalized communities, anti-intellectualism, religion entwined with national politics etc.

I am not even sure the ones you are talking about do. A large proportion of republicans categorize Nazis as socialists

Too many people think they will benefit from a little more autocracy. It never works out that way, but the scapegoating makes it easy to blame anyone else but themselves when they lose everything to fascism.

In discussing civil rights and systemic racism, a close relative said "I'm against genocide." I tried to explain the Nazis used propaganda to condition "good" people to accept human and civil rights violations, to otherize people, which led them to also accepting/ignoring genocide. /1

Playing footsie with the Republican party and so-called independents who vote Republican is the same as playing footsie with Nazis. There is a right and there is a wrong. /end

That’s what happens when you have an extremely uneducated Electorate. Republicans have been pushing this agenda since Reagan. It’s just gotten more virulently racist, homophobic, and misogynistic. Personally, I find MAGA Republicans an embarrassment to our Country. I don’t think Gen Z likes them.

Unfortunate fact: Milennials and Gen Z have their far right fringe, too. And Gen Z doesn't like Democrats all that much, either. They're waiting for the student loan relief & universal health care that the far *left* faction of the party pretty well promised them.

What "many Americans" know about Germany between 1933 and 1939? I think nothing or almost nothing.

In 1937, Langston Hughes declared: “We Negroes in America do not have to be told what fascism is in action. We know. Its theories of Nordic supremacy and economic suppression have long been realities to us.”

Well, it looks like Nazi Germany to my friend who was born there and lived during that time as a child. Her father was forced to fight at the Russian front, died there. Her mother died young too, sadly. I believe my friend.

I remember in the days after 9/11, we were numb, shocked to the core that something like that could happen HERE. I look at the current situation in the same way-we can't afford to be complacent and minimize/normalize what we're seeing/hearing. Very dangerous.

Unfortunately, most of the current fascism in America looks an awful lot like fascist nazi Germany. Our schools are merely the practice grounds for mass genocide.

Facism presents itself in many guises and sneaks up on people who aren’t paying attention. We have believed for so long “it can’t happen here” that many have been sleep walking.

Fascism prowls dark streets in misleading costumes, slithering into human hearts & minds. In America, Fascism whispers into a citizen's ear, & when they turn to view the source, it is disguised in the robes of Jesus Christ, the stovepipe of Lincoln, even the well-cut suit of a black GOP congressman.

The saying is that those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I’m appalled by the all out flirtation with fascism by so many. Is it naïveté? Racism? A failure of education, formal and informal? Why aren’t we learning?
