I'm posting this for everyone who's done an epic stupid diy. Here's your curve to feel better.

"it'll keep the knives nice and sharp"
WTAF?!?

No, it'll dull them like crazy if you even brush the edge against the stone (that's why butcher blocks are wood)

Plus takes up more room, and if you don't dry them, they'll rust, etc., etc., etc.

This is either trolling or a massively stupid person

Even if they thought this was a clever idea, I don't understand the random stabbing of the cardboard box to make a template.

The way they keep cutting away before they ever get to the corner, I'd bet that there's serious damage to that counter top and they're replacing it, and this troll video is just something they're doing before they tear it off.
Like people who convince others to microwave their phones to dry them.

There is nothing good here. The countertop is ruined. If they're put away wet, the knives will get rusty and the slots will grow lots of interesting bacteria. It looks terrible, and takes up much more space than the knife block. And if they have kids, it's unbelievably dangerous.

All in all, nope.

Now the knives take up WAY more space and the counter top is basically unusable

Those knives are going to rust around the part that goes through the counter if she rinses them, doesn't dry them, and sticks them back in there. The water won't evaporate. And will probably grow bacteria as well, which will then slice right through all her food. Illness and ruined knives, yay!

So, she ruined a lovely countertop, and she will ruin her knives as they slide touching whatever the counter is made of. Plus, it looks really awful.

This list of things wrong with it grows the more you think about it!

Pros: zero
Cons: at least 10, and growing

Trying to get to stuff at the back, under your sink, will end up slicing the back of your hand.

Not only did she think this was a good idea, she managed to convince dude that it was a good idea. Two people who thought loose blades under the sink was a good idea.

A) It is not absolutely perfect. It's idiotic.
B) The knives take up 4 x the space now.
C) Why are the holes for the steak knives so big?
D) Rinsing and not washing your utensils... I can't even.
