So SOMEONE got to change the smoke alarm battery at 4:30 am.

I don't know why they never go in the middle of the day.

So annoying! We had one go out a couple weeks ago, and it took us some time to figure out which one it was. We also have separate ones tied into the entire building. Those are loud! Cardiac arrest-inducing loud! And then there is the sprinkler system that terrifies me... Eeek!

We actually called the fire department in the middle of the night once. It wasn’t giving warning beeps, it was just going off . We freaked out, maybe something was happening in the attic we couldn’t see? They were very nice about checking it out.

The first time I set mine off in my new house it was daytime but they were so loud I almost couldn’t function. Our whole neighborhood can hear these things. And the main living room one is 20 feet in the air. I should probably take this as a sign to buy a ladder soon 😑.

WAIT. It's 20 feet up?? How do you change the battery without a ladder??

And they're not hard-wired???

Yes, please get a good, stable ladder bc eventually it's going to go.

This always happens. Middle of the freaking night…. And then I have to hunt around for the batteries, figure out which smoke detector it is. Minimum 45 minute activity and then I can’t fall back to sleep 🤨

never fails, does it.

i think lower temperatures mean batteries source less current. so, the coolest part of the night ⇒ failing battery finally dips below the alerting threshold.

OH that's a really interesting theory! I wonder if that's true.

It’s like it’s designed to do that, right? Every. Damn. Time.
