My biggest peeve is that some people can't seem to understand just how important Echoing is here. I'm looking at you 1st and 2nd Wavers...don't be so comfortable in your established pods that you don't help set the example for the newcomers, is all I'm saying.

Thank you for this information. Each platform is different and it is great to know the details. Is there a place to see a person’s original content? Separate from their echoes? I get a feel for a person’s interests from their tab but do not know the trick to find them individually. I love it here

You're very welcome 🙂 You can get a feel for someone by going to their Profile and reading their Replies tab. As well, you can Search the user name either generally, or more specifically, by using the Advanced Search. And, you're right, this is great place to be!

P.S. You won't get the Echoes in the Search results!

One of my followers actually told me to stop echoing so many spouts as it was filling up his timeline. However, I have a feeling he may no longer be following me anyway, so: 🤷‍♀️

Rude! Well, there's an Off switch now so echo to your heart's content. I do! 😀

I like the heart. It lets the OP know that you like it and your not looking for fame, (This isn't meant to imply that those that echo are looking fame, simply that the "heart" certainly is not).

Doesn’t echoing cause the post to flood folks’ timelines with the post? Will I see a copy of the post from everyone I follow who echoes it? Or perhaps Spoutible limits the number of copies I see of any given echo?
These questions are why I’m hesitant to echo a post as often as I like it.

If you follow a lot of accounts, the repeat effect gets diluted. You can also switch to the explore page to see more variety.

Be patient with us -- and keep teaching! We're still trying to get rid of the bird app habits. And, thanks!

Aww, you're welcome 😊 and thank you for doing your part!
It's less about teaching and more about rallying. If Spoutible fails through lack of engagement, we are all screwed. Where will we all go collectively? 😕

Yes, I'm not sure how much is made of the fact there is no algorithm here like on other social media sites that serve you more of what you 'want' (with the exception of Mastadon). The lack of that algorithm simply means that our engagement is the driver of exposure, so Like, Echo, and Comment!

That was my biggest pet peeve on the bird site. I couldn’t understand why so many people would like a post, but then not share it. It didn’t make any sense to me.

To add to this mystery, I've recently come to learn that some are also pretty defensive and slightly hostile about it too. No problem, whenever I come across their spouts, I'll just keep scrolling. 🤷‍♂️

I sometimes refrain from echoing, especially when I've seen there has been at least 6 echoes, out of compassion for other spouters. I understand the importance, but it was the only turnoff when I joined to have the same spouts repeated ad nauseum before I could see any other spouts. 🤷

Too many echoes also make a timeline very boring. I like likes. It shows that we do not spout into a void, someone noticed. 💓

The biggest challenge that I see is when a post is echoed- a lot - I see that post over and over again in my feed. Seeing it at the top of my feed is great, but after the 4th or 5 th time I just want to mute it!

When you quote echo, also be sure to leave a comment on the original Spouter's post. Their followers may not follow you, which means they will never see your quote echo. So leaving a comment for the Spouter gives their follows a chance to engage with you. This helps you build your following.

Conversely, when a number of my follows echo the same spout, it shows up in my timeline repeatedly, which crowds out other items I might have wanted to see.

I find the Timeline noisy so I tend to use Explore more. It allows me to see every new spout as it's coming in and before being filtered out to timelines. I don't feel I'm missing much at all doing it this way

Bottom right of your posting/spout window. Click the symbol between the speech bubble and the heart then choose the bottom option of Echo. Welcome 🙂
